Fire Safety - Projects

Our fire safety team have been directly- or sub-contracted on a number of large and small projects for blue chip companies to small medium enterprises (SMEs).

Fire Risk Assessment

Selected Projects

GRP Fire Performance

Production of a safety case analysing the performance of glass reinforced plastic as a substitute for steel, including fire performance testing, i.e. flame spread, smoke index, toxicity index, fire resistance and structural failure.

Astute Fire Dynamics

The project analysed the fire dynamics and event trees of a nuclear installation to assess the annual frequency of a fire occurrence. These frequencies were then reduced based on fire dynamics; fire plume, heat transfer and burn rate models.

Fire Risk Assessment

Having completed fire safety risk assessments for various industries / business premises we are experienced and competent assessors and auditors of the RRFSO. We have used innovative approaches, combined with best practices to overcome many financial and resource obstacles that our clients have faced.

ILW Decomissioning

A detailed fire risk assessment and probabilistic safety assessment of a nuclear storage facility. The produced quantitative safety report was used to support the INSA Query.

Project Focus

Hyperbaric Chamber Fire Dynamics

Using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) as the basis of the safety case analysed the likelihood and consequence of a fire in a hyperbaric chamber.

Hyperbaric chambers are at an increased risk due to the presence of an oxygen enriched atmosphere (OEA) resulting from increase in oxygen concentration and high pressure environments.

The challenges here were to demonstrate that the likelihood of a fire initiating were remote, due to the recommended risk reduction methods and the mitigating justifications.

These justifications, based on engineering evidence and fire dynamic calculations, provided a sound argument for not installing several fire safety precautions. This saved the project over ¼ million pounds.
